On memory
On memory
I lost a sticker I'd been terrified of losing for three years. This Barcelona sticker was given to me as a gift when I bought a tote bag with a pride flag in Barcelona. It symbolized my return to Barcelona.
It seems sometimes you have to lose the things you're afraid to lose. Things don't hold any memories. The only one who holds memories is you.
Places don't hold memories — you hold those memories.
You hold memories of many people who will never remember you. Other people hold memories of you — and you won't even remember them.
Holding on to memories is rather a defect in human existence. So much information passes through you in a single day. Can you imagine how much passes through you in a year? Or in ten years? Why would you remember that swing in the yard or that girl you saw when you were 10?
There's probably some meaning to this, some kind of structure, the construction of which will help you get to know yourself.
See yourself, understand yourself, and forgive yourself for everything you don't remember.
