Berlin: unerwartet

Berlin: unerwartet

This trip is one of the most random. A week and a half ago, the head of the organization where I am doing an internship asked me if I would like to go to Berlin. I said yes and then I asked why. He said there was an event that our organization wanted to attend, but no one had time to go to Berlin.

I've never been to Berlin, but I know quite a lot about the city. I speak German as well as English, if not better.

I knew Berlin was one of the cities I would have definitely fallen in love with if it wasn't for the weather. I love how multicultural Berlin is. I love the history of this place, a very complicated past. I love how people have turned this place into something different, into an oasis of freedom. There's a park where, as soon as you enter, you're surrounded by at least three guys offering you drugs.

The weather here is terrible. You want the worst month to visit Berlin? That's from November to March. That's when everything is gray - you wake up and the sky is gray, you walk through the streets and it starts raining, the sky gets even grayer. Around 3 pm the sun (which is hard to believe in when you're in Berlin) goes down. And it's night. I would never live in a place like this. The sun is essential for me.

I can't stop myself from comparing Barcelona to Berlin. I'm still so in love with Barcelona that I have a feeling that one day I'll start hugging people at Barcelona el Praat airport when I finally move there. Even though I speak fluent German, Barcelona still feels so much more familiar to me, feels like home, like a place where I'm meant to be. But I'm not there. Not there yet.
